The Texas Spurs WPSL (Women’s Premier Soccer League) team is proud to announce that Bert Green has been promoted to Head Coach, effective March 2019. Green was the assistant coach in 2018.  Ed Puskarich, owner, will continue as Director of Soccer.  "We are thrilled to promote from within as Coach Bert is a quality leader with a wealth of experience.  Bert played professional soccer and baseball and brings a ton of experience and knowledge.  His excitement and energy will help fuel our players to reach a high level.  I’m excited to see what 2019 has in store for our ladies," exclaimed Puskarich.

Green has an array of experience in the WPSL. Green started with Ed Puskarich in 2013 for the Texas Football Club’s WPSL team. He continued to help with the team after the team made its reappearance under the Texas Spurs name. Green has helped as a consultant, assistant coach, and fitness coach with the Texas Spurs since 2015.  Green started his athletic career in soccer, baseball, football, and hockey, spending five years in the MLB, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers. After retiring from the MLB Green went onto play collegiate football as a kicker and receiver as well as ran track for McMurry in Abilene Texas.  After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Communications, Green began to educate himself in coaching and began his coaching career in 2008.  He has coached high school soccer, collegiate football, and is currently coaching for the Texas Spurs youth club.

Green also played professional soccer in Mexico for Pachuca. Green stated “I am excited to have the opportunity to step up into this position this year and coach women at such a high level. It has been an inspiring experience watching the female side of soccer grow and develop so much over the past seven years that I have been involved with the WPSL. I am looking forward to continuing to be a part of this world wide movement in the women’s game.”
